21 July 2026 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova closed the Annual Conference of the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Representatives of the Republic of Bulgaria, which was held in Sofia on 20 and 21 July.

In her closing address to the heads of mission, Minister Petrova emphasised the importance of consistent coordination between the structural units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulgaria’s diplomatic missions abroad and the other state institutions. She noted that the timely exchange of information is essential to the effective work of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Service in today’s dynamic international and domestic political environment.

Minister Petrova stressed that the political stability achieved in Bulgaria has created the conditions for the country to pursue a longer-term strategic outlook and to defend its national interests with greater predictability and confidence.

Bulgaria’s top diplomat identified the development of economic diplomacy as an essential instrument for fostering new partnerships, creating opportunities and attracting investment. She underlined that the rule of law, transparency and effective institutions are key prerequisites for building trust and establishing a sustainable investment climate.

The Foreign Minister called on Bulgarian diplomats to view the country’s geographical location as a strategic advantage and to work towards establishing Bulgaria as a crossroads for transport, energy and economic corridors. She highlighted connectivity and energy partnerships as an opportunity to position Bulgaria as a bridge between the European Union, the countries of the region, Central Asia and the Gulf region.

“Do not place limits on your ambitions,” Minister Petrova said, urging Bulgaria’s diplomatic missions abroad to be proactive, put forward new initiatives and contribute to an even more visible and confident Bulgarian presence on the international stage.
