Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Adopt BTA’s LIK Typeface

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova received the rights for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to use the LIK typeface during an official ceremony held today at the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). The licence agreement was signed by Minister Petrova and BTA Director General Kiril Valchev. Developed by the National Academy of Art at the request of BTA, the LIK typeface will now be used in the Ministry’s official communications.
During the event, the Minister emphasised that, by signing the agreement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was taking another important step towards establishing the Bulgarian script as an integral part of its public and international communications.
“As we communicate with the world, typefaces are increasingly becoming more than simply a means of writing – they are part of the visual language of nations. They are the new ambassadors of cultural identity, crossing borders and reaching people faster than any other form of communication,” Bulgaria's top diplomat said. She noted that the LIK typeface’s contemporary design and its ability to support all official languages of the European Union give the Bulgarian alphabet a modern, cohesive and distinctive visual identity.
In her remarks, Minister Petrova also highlighted the importance of visual identity in diplomacy. She noted that every diplomatic note, official letter and message issued by Bulgaria begins with the letters of the Bulgarian alphabet, and that the use of the LIK typeface will contribute to building a unified, modern and recognisable image of the country.
The ceremony also highlighted the long-standing partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bulgarian News Agency, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continuing their close cooperation. For his part, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev recalled that the agency’s first foreign correspondents were Bulgarian diplomats and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its contribution to expanding BTA’s network of correspondents abroad.
