10 June 2026 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova held a bilateral meeting with her Albanian counterpart, Ferit Hoxha, on the sidelines of the Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), which is taking place today in Sofia.

Minister Petrova underlined that Albania is a friend and trusted partner of Bulgaria in NATO and in the region. The two ministers agreed that their shared objective is to transform the active political dialogue into even more results-oriented cooperation in areas such as connectivity, energy, tourism, the economy and education. The issue of the Bulgarian national minority in Albania was also among the topics discussed.

The country's European integration was also high on the agenda. Bulgaria's top diplomat noted that Albania can continue to rely on Bulgaria's consistent support for the successful completion of its European Union accession process at the earliest possible opportunity.

The two top diplomats shared a common understanding of the strategic importance of Corridor VIII, as well as of the leading role of Bulgaria and Albania in accelerating its implementation. The forthcoming International Conference on Corridor VIII, which Sofia will host in October 2026, was also discussed during their talks.
