Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva represented Bulgaria at the High-Level Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC), held on 20 March this year in Paris. As a country with "participant" status in the DAC since 2018, Bulgaria took part in the forum for the third time. In addition to the members of the Committee, observers, key partners, representatives of leading international organisations, and others participated in the meeting. OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann addressed the participants with a welcome speech.
This year's DAC High-Level Meeting took place in the context of the upcoming Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, which will be held this summer in Seville, Spain. The focus was placed on three main issues – the effectiveness of development assistance, working with partners, and mobilising additional financing for sustainable development.
"Increasing the effectiveness of development assistance is crucial for our collective efforts to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals," Deputy Minister Angelieva stated in her speech. She emphasised that the Development Assistance Committee must continue to play a key role in promoting effectiveness, focusing on strengthening the implementation of existing principles, adapting to new global realities, and consolidating and improving its own role as a leader in development cooperation.
The Bulgarian Deputy Minister noted that the Committee's recommendations and guidelines on aid effectiveness should reflect the current global landscape and the lessons learned over the past decade. She highlighted the added value of enhancing dialogue and cooperation with emerging donors, South-South cooperation providers, philanthropic organisations, and the private sector.
Maria Angelieva also congratulated Latvia on its admission as a member of the DAC on 19 March this year.
