Deputy Minister Elena Shekerletova Receives Newly Appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bulgaria

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elena Shekerletova, today received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Bulgaria, Emil Jacota.

During the meeting, the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova were noted. Special attention was paid to the significant progress of the Republic of Moldova in the process of achieving full membership in the EU and the related reforms in the country, as well as to Bulgaria's support for overcoming the challenges in the energy sector, diversifying energy sources and improving energy connectivity. The interest of Bulgaria in cooperation in countering hybrid threats, aggressive Russian propaganda and disinformation was emphasised.

The discussion focused on the numerous historical Bulgarian communities in the Republic of Moldova, which number about 60,000 people and are a significant factor and constructive element in the development of bilateral relations. Deputy Minister Shekerletova emphasised that maintaining the Taraclia region as an independent administrative-territorial unit remains a priority for Bulgaria, which is crucial for preserving the linguistic and cultural identity of the Bulgarian national minority in the Republic of Moldova.

Both sides at the meeting emphasised their readiness to develop cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova in all areas of mutual interest.
