Minister Georg Georgiev held a first telephone conversation with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas.
During the conversation our first diplomat assured his interlocutor of our country's support for the efforts of the High Representative to maintain unity and build consensus within the EU, especially against the background of the current geopolitical challenges. In this context, the Bulgarian foreign minister also underlined our country's commitment to a united and healthy European Union, which should guarantee the security and prosperity of its citizens, especially in the light of the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Our first diplomat took the opportunity to brief the High Representative on Bulgaria's priorities in the field of the EU's common foreign and security policy for the upcoming institutional cycle. Among them, emphasis was placed on support for EU enlargement and the integration of the Western Balkans, following the principle of the own merits of the candidate countries; support for security in the Black Sea as a strategically important region for the common European security; our country's support for Ukraine, as well as the focus on humanitarian problems in the Middle East and the alleviation of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Minister Georgiev and Ms Kallas agreed on the key role Bulgaria as an EU member has in building peace and security in Europe and maintaining the fundamental principles of unity and consensus of the Union.
