In the context of the triple jubilee between Bulgaria and Japan, which we celebrate in 2024 —115 years since the first official contacts, 85 years since the establishment and 65 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations, the two sides discussed the state of bilateral relations in traditional areas such as political dialogue, trade and investment cooperation, energy and culture, as well as the opportunities for their further development and upgrading in the modern realities.
Minister Kondov praised the intensification of cooperation in the economic sphere and the implementation this year in Bulgaria of several visits of business delegations from Japan, including from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and shared his hope that JETRO will reestablish its presence in Bulgaria. Bulgaria’s participation in the upcoming EXPO 2025 in Osaka is welcomed, which will contribute to increasing our country's visibility among the Japanese public and business.
The two sides confirmed the desire of Bulgaria and Japan, as like-minded and traditionally friendly countries, to continue their positive interaction on topical international issues, including the war in Ukraine.
