Participation of Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva in the International Conference ‘Call to Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ in Jordan

Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva participated in the International Conference ‘Call to Action: An Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ which took place on 11 June this year in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Bulgarian delegation included the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria in Amman, Mr. Metin Kazak.
The event was organized by the King of Jordan, H.E. Abdullah II, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. E. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The conference was attended by Heads of State and Government, Ministers and Deputy Ministers of countries from around the world, Secretaries-General and representatives of international regional organizations such as the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Union for the Mediterranean, as well as organizations and agencies of the UN system and the non-governmental sector. On the EU side, the conference was attended by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The United States of America was represented by Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The aim of the conference was to bring together efforts for joint action and humanitarian response to the conflict in Gaza, to improve coordination and address challenges to ensure the provision of urgent, sustainable and sufficient humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.
In her statement, Deputy Minister Maria Angelieva underlined Bulgaria's sustained commitment to support international efforts to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. She highlighted the key stabilizing role of Jordan and Egypt in the Middle East region and their efforts towards meeting the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian population in the enclave — efforts which Bulgaria supports through cooperation and the provision of humanitarian assistance through the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization and the Egyptian Red Crescent. Given the practical collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip and the need to meet the acute health care needs of the Gazan population, Deputy Minister Angelieva announced that Bulgaria is ready to provide additional support through the World Health Organization.
