On 11 June 2024, political consultations at the level of Directors-General for European Affairs between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Finland took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland.

On the Bulgarian side, the delegation was led by Mr. Yordan Parvanov and on the Finnish side by Mr. Olli Kantanen.

A wide range of issues on the bilateral and European agenda were discussed. The main focus was on the Western Balkans, the future of the European Union and the work on the new strategic agenda, the EU enlargement policy, energy security, regional cooperation as well as security in the Black and Baltic Sea region.

The two delegations were unanimous in their assessment that there is ample scope for deepening both bilateral and EU-NATO cooperation between Bulgaria and Finland. On the Bulgarian side, gratitude was expressed for Finland's support for Bulgaria's efforts to join the OECD, the euro area, as well as for the completion of the Schengen integration process with the abolition of land border controls.

Both sides expressed readiness to maintain a regular dialogue in various bilateral and European formats.
