Bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Romania

On 4.04.2024 bilateral consultations were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria with a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The two sides discussed consular issues arising from the Schengen membership of Bulgaria and Romania, as well as issues related to reactions and crisis management.

The participants assessed the talks as extremely useful and timely in the context of the joint accession to the Schengen area by air and water and the similar challenges faced by the two EU Member States. There was a consensus that close cooperation and coordinated action are the right path to successful full Schengen membership. An analysis of the achievements to date was made, highlighting good practices and successful policies. Experiences in the purely practical and technical field were exchanged, as well as information on adapting national legislation to the Schengen acquis. The delegations agreed to meet again on the same topic and to deepen cooperation in the future.

The following persons took part on the Romanian side: Ambassador of Romania to Bulgaria H.E. Ms. Brânduşa Ioana Predescu, Director General of the Consular Department Mr. Bogdan Mihai Stanescu and Mr. Andrei Ferendino, Head of the Emergency Operations Centre at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the Bulgarian side, the leading representatives were Mr. Georgi Vodensky, Director of the Consular Relations Directorate and Ms. Tanya Dimitrova, Director of the Situation Centre Directorate.
