Message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

30 December 2023 News

With regard to the media inquiries about the case of Bulgarian citizens waiting at the Serbian-Hungarian border for bus transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides the following information:

An immediate investigation was carried out on the information received from the media. Bulgaria's consul in Budapest has reported heavy traffic at the Serbian-Hungarian border in connection with the upcoming New Year holidays and increased controls by the competent border authorities, resulting in a longer than usual waiting time.

Today, there was a cluster of 25 buses, two of them with Bulgarian citizens, at the border crossing point Horgoš — Röszke. After his intervention, the latter have now been checked and have continued their journey.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Bulgarian citizens to inform themselves well in advance of their travel during the New Year holidays, when there is increased road traffic, and to use alternative routes and BCPs.

Alerts and requests for assistance in disaster situations of Bulgarian citizens are accepted around the clock on the telephone lines of the Situation Centre Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: on the following telephones: +359 2 948 24 04; +359 2 971 38 56, by e-mail at: [email protected], as well as the emergency hotlines of our diplomatic missions.
