Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel took part in the Prayer for Peace in the Sofia Synagogue. The discussion focused on the situation in Israel and neighbouring countries in the region.
"We condemn in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas, which have caused enormous loss of life and many injuries on both sides. We stand in solidarity with Israel, including with regard to the hostages taken by Hamas," the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stressed.
In her statement, she expressed concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza and called for coordinated efforts to support civilians on both sides. Maria Gabriel also stressed the need to make efforts to prevent escalation in the region.
"Coordination and pre-emptive action - this is what we need as an EU. A humanitarian corridor, constant contact with neighbouring and regional countries, and vigilance against misinformation are important actions to avoid an escalation of the conflict," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
