Statement by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, on behalf of the EU, on the attacks against Israel:
The European Union condemns in the strongest possible terms the numerous attacks by Hamas throughout Israel and deeply regrets the loss of life.
The EU calls for an immediate end to these senseless attacks and violence, which will only further increase tensions on the ground and seriously damage the aspirations of the Palestinian people for peace.
The EU stands in solidarity with Israel, which has the right to defend itself under international law in the face of such violent and multiple attacks.
The EU recalls the importance of working towards a lasting and sustainable peace through renewed efforts within the Middle East Peace Process.
