31 May 2022 News

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Irena Dimitrova received Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria Brundusa Predescu. During the meeting, the two sides discussed current issues on the NATO agenda, which will be decided at the NATO Summit in Madrid on June 29-30, 2022, given the threats posed by Russian aggression in Ukraine.

In this context, Deputy Minister Dimitrova and Ambassador Predescu agreed on the main elements and guiding principles for the preparation of the new Strategic Concept of the Alliance. The growing risks to the Euro-Atlantic area and the consolidation of the Alliance's defense potential across the Eastern Flank in response to the changing geostrategic security environment were also discussed.

During the conversation, the high level of cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania was highlighted, as close strategic allies in NATO and neighbors, sharing common challenges and commitments on issues related to security in the Black Sea region and strengthening resilience.
