Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova welcomed Latvian Ambassador to Bulgaria Edgars Bondars at a farewell meeting on the occasion of the end of his term. The development of the bilateral relations between the two countries was discussed at the meeting and areas for future cooperation were outlined.

“We are welcoming the further strengthening of the bilateral political dialogue and the strengthening of the Bulgarian-Latvian cooperation in all areas of mutual interest”, said Deputy Minister Petrova and thanked Ambassador Bondars for his work during his term. For his part, he invited on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia the Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodora Genčovska in Riga as a good opportunity to strengthen the political dialogue between the countries.

The interlocutors discussed the upcoming summit of the Three Seas Initiative, hosted by Latvia this year. The Ambassador presented the programme of the event and thanked for the assistance provided in its preparation to the Bulgarian side, which was the previous host in 2021. “For Bulgaria, the Three Seas Initiative is a priority, we will continue to be an active part of the regional consolidation process”, the Deputy Minister explained.

Among the topics of conversation were the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Latvia, Bulgaria's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and the preparation of our country for accession to Schengen.
