The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev took part in the celebrations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev congratulated his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence and took part in the anniversary celebrations in Kiev.

In a Congratulatory address to Dmytro Kuleba, our Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction with the excellent and friendly relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine. “A significant element of these relations are the shared European and Euro-Atlantic values, strengthened by the cultural similarities between the nations of Bulgaria and Ukraine”, noted Minister Stoev. He expressed confidence that the good contacts between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries and the professionalism of our diplomatic representatives will continue to be a significant factor for the further successful and constructive development of our interstate cooperation.

Minister Stoev who is visiting Kiev on the occasion of the inaugural session opening of the International Crimean Platform Summit, today was among the foreign guests at the solemn ceremony at Nezavisimost Square, where in the presence of the President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian government and foreign official delegations, the Ukrainian national flag was raised and a parad with the participation of military units of Ukraine, the USA, the Great Britain, Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Sweden and Moldova was held.

Ukraine proclaimed its independence on August 24, 1991. Bulgaria, which recognized Ukraine’s independence on December 5, 1991, pursued a consistent policy of supporting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, supporting its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations. The presence in Ukraine of a 200,000 historical Bulgarian community, the largest outside Bulgaria, further strengthens our relations and creates a solid basis for their further activation in all areas of mutual interest.

On August 25, Minister Stoev will be a guest of the Bulgarian community in the city of Bolgrad, Odessa region, where the jubilee events on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the city will be officially opened.
