Deputy Minister Rumen Alexandrov and his Czech counterpart Pavel Jaroš discussed possibilities for deepening cooperation between the two countries

The possibilities for deepening the cooperation between Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, both bilaterally and within the EU, NATO and other international organisations, were discussed today by Deputy Foreign Minister Rumen Alexandrov and his Czech counterpart Pavel Jaroš. At the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two confirmed the high level of relations, as well as the partnership and solidarity on issues important for both countries. The positive dynamics in the political dialogue in recent years at a high and the highest level were taken into account.

In the light of the measures taken by the two countries, as well as at EU level, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, options were also discussed to facilitate travel between the two countries, especially to promote tourism, given the traditionally high interest of Czech tourists in Bulgaria.

The importance and potential of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and investments in a number of sectors of our economy were emphasised. In connection with the process of finalising the national plans for reconstruction and development within the EU, Rumen Alexandrov noted that Bulgaria and the Czech Republic could cooperate to achieve the most effective and socially sustainable solution regarding the "green transition".

The current situation regarding the EU enlargement process was also discussed, and the Czech Deputy Minister was presented with the main elements of the Bulgarian position on the start of EU accession negotiations with the Republic of Northern Macedonia, incl. need to provide clear guarantees, within the negotiation process, for the implementation of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation between Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia was emphasised.
