27 May 2021 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Bulgaria evacuated a Bulgarian family from the Gaza Strip, which mission was organised following the initiative of the Ukrainian side with a plane and other transport provided, and with the assistance of the Egyptian authorities.

The three Bulgarian citizens and a fourth member of the family with Palestinian citizenship landed successfully at Sofia Airport, passing through two countries - Egypt and Ukraine. Our missions in Tel Aviv, Ramallah, Cairo and Kiev, as well as the Situation Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took part in the entire evacuation process, which lasted 17 days. The family, which asked for help from our diplomatic mission in Ramallah, arrived in Bulgaria thanks to the excellent cooperation of Bulgarian with the Ukrainian authorities, which organised an evacuation flight for Ukrainian citizens in Palestine through Egypt.

Our embassy in Tel Aviv provided coordination and organisation with the Ukrainian side on the field. The group of a total 109 persons was transported from the Gaza Strip by bus and a military convoy to the Cairo airport. The Bulgarian family was welcomed by our Consul in the capital of Egypt. With the help of our diplomatic mission in Ramallah and our Embassy in Kiev, the three Bulgarian citizens were obtained identity documents, and the fourth member of the family - a Bulgarian visa. During their stay in Kiev, they were accommodated in our embassy in the Ukrainian capital.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Bulgaria expresses its sincere gratitude to Ukraine for the excellent cooperation and the opportunity provided to the Bulgarian family to return to Bulgaria. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also thanked Egypt for the conditions provided for the implementation of a humanitarian mission.
