Minister Svetlan Stoev: The BSEC remains the most representative organisation in the wider Black Sea region

25 June 2021 News

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev welcomed the Organisation for Black Sea and Economic Cooperation (BSEC) as the most representative and institutionally developed organisation in the wider Black Sea region.

On June 25, we celebrate the BSEC Day, in which Bulgaria is a member, as are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine and the Republic of Northern Macedonia.

"The Black Sea Economic Cooperation remains the most representative and institutionally developed organisation in the wider Black Sea region. It is a unique and effective model for multilateral economic cooperation that overcomes differences and focuses on different areas that can bring member states closer,” said Minister Stoev in congratulatory letters to Ambassador Michael Christidis, concluding his second successful term as BSEC Secretary General, and to Ambassador Lazar Comanescu. He will assume the post of new Secretary General of the BSEC on July 1, 2021.

Minister Stoev expressed his highest gratitude to Ambassador Christidis for his personal contribution to strengthening the importance and publicity of BSEC by improving relations with various international organisations, especially the EU, as well as further strengthening the constructive dialogue and cooperation between the BSEC member states. "I would like to emphasise your special efforts to increase the efficiency of the Permanent International Secretariat of the BSEC and the support for the rotating presidencies," said our Foreign Minister.

In his congratulatory message to Ambassador Comanescu, Svetlan Stoev expressed his expectations for further development of the BSEC, including within the framework for cooperation with the EU. "I look forward to continuing cooperation with the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat for further development of the BSEC as a project-oriented organisation, for promoting meaningful cooperation between the BSEC and the EU, and for continuing the BSEC reform processes to make our organisation more adaptable to modern challenges," said our Foreign Minister in his congratulatory letter to Ambassador Comanescu.

He expressed his conviction that their joint efforts would contribute to strengthening and deepening constructive dialogue and cooperation between the member states in various fields, keeping the Black Sea region high on the EU agenda and increasing the organisation's valuable role in the region
