"Over the last three decades, we have managed to build a very strong relationship with the Republic of Korea. The Republic of Korea is a priority partner of Bulgaria not only in Asia but also on the international stage. We share common values ​​and similar positions on many global and regional issues". This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, who opened an online conference on "Republic of Bulgaria - Republic of Korea: partners in a changing world". The event, organized by the Diplomatic Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Bulgarian Embassy in Seoul and the Centre for Bulgarian Studies at Hankuk University, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sofia, brought together diplomats, economists, scientists and professors to discuss deepening cooperation between the two countries.

The conference was part of the calendar to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea, which we celebrated in 2020.

Deputy Minister Georgiev stressed the active political dialogue between the two countries over the past few years, including the visit of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov to the Republic of Korea in September 2019. He highlighted the economy, energy, technology, education as areas of mutual interest and expressed hope in the near future to see more practical results in the field of investment, trade and tourism.

Highlights included pandemic public diplomacy, economic recovery from the aftermath of COVID-19, deepening cooperation with a focus on young people and educational exchange.
