China steps up its co-operation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivan Sirakov, took part on September 5 and 6 in Beijing in the first meeting of the Chinese Secretariat for Co-operation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the national representatives of 16 countries of the region.

Mr Sirakov expressed Bulgaria’s desire to take advantage of the 12 measures launched in April 2012 by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to promote co-operation between China and Central and Eastern Europe, and officially presented Bulgaria’s candidacy to host the second summit meeting of the Heads of Government of China and the Countries of Central and Eastern Europe in 2013. During the forum, a meeting was held between national representatives of 16 European countries and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

At a meeting, the Permanent Secretary and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and General Secretary of the Secretariat Sun Tao discussed the possibility of organising high-level mutual visits as well as specific projects to deepen co-operation between Bulgaria and China in the economy, trade, culture and education.
