Deputy Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev talks with Montserrat Jovira, Vice Governor of Catalonia

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev met and spoke with the Vice Governor of the Autonomous Province of Catalonia Montserrat Jovira on May 17 of this year.

During the meeting, Georgiev informed the Vice Governor of the decision of the Bulgarian government to open a consulate in Barcelona. He pointed to the large number of Bulgarians residing in Catalonia as well as the numerous Bulgarian tourists visiting Barcelona and its surroundings every year.

‘The consulate will assist significantly those of our fellow nationals who need consular and administrative services, but at the same time we believe it will contribute to the trade and cultural relations between our two countries,’ said the Deputy Minister.

Georg Georgiev stressed the excellent relations between Bulgaria and Spain and reiterated the firm support of Bulgaria for the territorial integrity of Spain, for compliance with the Spanish Constitution and the rule of law.

Montserrat Jovira expressed her satisfaction with the decision of the Bulgarian government to open a consulate in Barcelona headed by a career diplomat. She underscored that the offices of the Spanish government in Catalonia will grant all necessary support to the new diplomatic mission. Montserrat Jovira made it clear that the consulate will be another step towards consolidating the excellent cooperation and traditional ties between Bulgaria and Spain.
