Bulgarian Ambassador to Austria pays tribute to the victims of National Socialism

The Bulgarian Ambassador to Austria, Ivan Sirakov, took part in this year’s 74th ceremony of remembrance of the victims of Nazism who perished in the Austrian concentration camp complex of Mauthausen-Gusen. The event is organized on May 5 of every year by the International Mauthausen Committee. This year, it took place under the motto: ‘Never a number. Forever human!’
During the ceremony, which was conducted in different languages, including Bulgarian, the participants took the Mauthausen Oath. After laying wreaths at the symbolic common sarcophagus (cenotaph) on the parade ground of the concentration camp, the Bulgarian Ambassador was personally greeted by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by more than 7,000 participants, among whom: Federal Chancellor Kurz; Wolfgang Sobotka, the President of the Austrian National Council; Federal President (2004 - 2016) Heinz Fischer; cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps from over 60 countries, numerous representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as members of the public who came to pay tribute to the dead.
