Ekaterina Zaharieva, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who received a delegation of the Kuwait-Bulgaria Friendship Group, appealed for strengthening the visible trade and promoting business ventures between the two countries.
‘The visible trade and investments between Bulgaria and Kuwait must increase in order to match the high level of our good bilateral relations,’ underscored Minister Zaharieva.
Our Foreign Minister pointed out the contribution of the Emir of Kuwait for restoring peace and security in the region of the Middle East, and congratulated him on the Global Development Award conferred upon him by the World Bank earlier this year. Minister Zaharieva also noted the preparations for the visit of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov to Kuwait.
Mrs. Zaharieva pointed to the positive development of the Bulgarian economy and tourism, stating that last year, the country had been visited by about 9 million tourists, and that it ranks third among the EU Member States in economic growth rate for 2018.
‘Bulgaria is proud of the rapid development of its economy and the tourist sector. Owing to its good accessibility from Europe, foreign investments in Bulgaria keep growing all the time. The opportunities for successfully stepping up cooperation with Kuwait in trade, investment activities and tourism are enormous,’ underlined Minister Zaharieva.
In the course of her talks with Raqan Yusef Al Nasuf, the Chairman of the Kuwait-Bulgarian Friendship Group, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed that it is necessary for the Joint Bulgaria-Kuwait Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation, which has not met since 2006, to resume its work.
Raqan Yusef Al Nasuf noted that from a Kuwaiti perspective, Bulgaria is attractive with its highly developed tourism industry as well as its property market. He suggested that Bulgaria should participate in the annual property exhibition organized in Kuwait in order to showcase the opportunities it has to offer in that area.
The parties were unanimous that to invigorate their business contacts, the two countries should organize a meeting between representatives of the respective business communities.
