Commenting on the unrest in Lebanon in recent days, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vessela Tcherneva said:

15 May 2012 News

Bulgaria condemns the violence in the Lebanese city of Tripoli in which eight civilians have died and dozens have been injured. We express our sincere condolences to the relatives of those killed and our sympathy to those who have been injured.

We reaffirm our support for the efforts of the Lebanese authorities aimed at strengthening stability and civil calm in the country and urge Lebanese society to put the national interest first. It is especially important to prevent an escalation of tensions, which can be extremely dangerous given the unstable situation in the region. We are convinced that the role of Lebanon is key to future positive developments in the region.
