European Heritage Day at the MFA

15 September 2018 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has joined for yet another year the European Heritage Days by opening its doors to visitors eager to appreciate its rich collection of paintings and sculptures.

Co-organizers of this open-doors initiative are the Ministry of Culture, Sofia Municipality, the French Embassy and the French Institute in Sofia.

Like every year so far, the goal of the event remains the same: to allow the general public to enjoy works of art of high cultural value that are displayed in buildings with normally restricted access.

Visitors to the MFA building got to learn interesting facts both about the history of the diplomatic institution and about the ways the works of art had been acquired and are being put on display on its grounds and premises. Officials of the State Cultural Institute guided members of the public on a tour of the rich collection of artefacts exhibited both in the courtyard of the building and in its stately foyers and hallways.

Visitors were also briefed on the role of diplomacy in safeguarding and promoting the cultural heritage, on projects pursued by the State Cultural Institute jointly with the Bulgarian diplomatic missions overseas or through the traveling exhibitions that had been presented in the capitals of Europe during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The guests showed a particular interest in the exhibited works of art and asked many questions.
