Austrian Ambassador Roland Hauser: Bulgaria took its befitting place on the international scene

27 August 2018 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva received Roland Hauser, Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Austria, in connection with his final departure from Bulgaria.

‘While our two countries, of course, maintain excellent relations on all levels, the personality of the Ambassador of any given country is extremely important. In you, I have not only always felt your personal support but the support of all of Austria,’ Minister Zaharieva said. ‘Because true friends are those who give advice when asked for one.’

After presenting his condolences on the fatal accident near Svoge, Ambassador Hauser expressed his gratitude to Minister Zaharieva for her cooperation over the years. ‘And this is not a diplomatic rhetoric, this is how I personally feel,’ he stressed.

The Austrian diplomat added that at the outset of his tour of duty, Bulgaria seemed to somewhat remain in the sidelines on the international scene, but ‘in recent years you took a place befitting to your country.’ Ambassador Hauser added that he would miss Bulgaria, the first Balkan posting in his diplomatic career. ‘Like with everything else, the feeling cannot be all positive or all negative, but I see Bulgaria as a glass that is half full, not half empty.’ The Austrian diplomat let it be known that this would be the message about our country that he would pass on to his colleagues and associates.

Minister Zaharieva thanked him for his words and agreed that not just politicians or diplomats, but the ordinary people of Bulgaria needed such positive messages and an affirmative approach in their thinking.
