Argentine Foreign Minister: “We Want to Cooperate with Bulgaria in Tourism, Pharmaceuticals and High Tech”

“Even though we have good beaches in Argentine, all my compatriots have heard about your Golden Sands and many of them would like to come to Bulgaria for a seaside holiday.” The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Argentine Republic Jorge Faurie said this, welcoming Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva to his office in Buenos Aires.
Bulgaria is paying a working visit to Argentina within the framework of the G20 Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers, at which she heads the delegation of the European Union.
“I myself have been to your country many times, and I would like to see Argentina and Bulgaria encourage their tourist exchange by trying to offer travellers lower air farces,” Minister Faurie stressed. Between 1980 and 1984 he was posted to the Argentine Embassy in Bucharest and was able to pay frequent visits to Bulgaria.
“This is my first time in your counry, and I would like to thank you for the hospitality. Argentina is the first country in Latin America with which Bulgaria established diplomatic relations, back in 1931. The Bulgarian community here numbers nearly 45,000 people, mostly Argentineans of Bulgarian descent, and it serves as a bridge between our two countries,” Ekaterina Zaharieva said.
“Bulgarian business can offer lots of ideas to your country in high technologies, pharmaceuticals, veterinary medicine, food processing and renewable energy,” the chief Bulgarian diplomat said. She called on her colleague for the soonest possible arrangement of a meeting of the mixed Bulgarian-Argentine trade and economic commission, as well as of a business forum. Minister Faurie agreed with the idea and said that Argentina is willing to host such a meeting before the end of this year.
The stock of Argentine investments in Bulgaria amounts to 1.1 million euro. An original Argentine technology for natural gas compression, decompression, transportation and distribution has been implemented and is in use in some regions of the country, mainly in parts of Central Bulgaria.
Bulgarian exports of automatic data-processing machines, insecticides, enzymes and enzyme preparations, articles for fireworks, antibiotics, printing machines and engines increased in 2016. Imports from Argentina are growing, too.
The two ministers also discussed the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and Argentina in connection with the arrangements for the annual Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions. “We are setting up a special agency for logistical support to the expeditions. We will always be there for you, if you need support,” Minister Faurie said.
