Ekaterina Zaharieva: The European budget is an expression of our values

The next EU Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-2027 was the main topic of the General Affairs Council, which was held today in Brussels under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva.
Today's first ministerial discussion marks the beginning of the negotiation process within the Council on the basis of a proposal by the European Commission on 2 May.
"The European budget is an expression of our values and ambitions. The debates that are ahead are not going to be easy, but our ultimate goal is clear - to guarantee a stable, secure and solid Europe that works for the European citizens, "Minister Zaharieva said. She stressed that the Bulgarian Presidency attaches priority to this issue and is ready to start working on an expert level.
The Ministers began preparations for European Council meeting in June by discussing the annotated draft agenda. The leaders will discuss the migration, security and defense, the European Semester, tax and digital issues, MFF, external relations.
The European Commission briefed the Ministers on the current state of affairs related to the rule of law in Poland and the ongoing dialogue with the Polish authorities.
