13 March 2018 NewsRegarding the comment made by the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, referring to Kardzhali, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria would like to point out that:
- Any country with a rich and long history could claim that its spiritual and cultural borders go beyond the physical ones.
- If the political rhetoric in a country for some reason opts to hark back to the past, it can, in nearly every case, outline boundaries that depart from the present ones.
- In reality, today's state borders have been affirmed by international treaties, recognized by all states and are not subject to questioning or revising.
Bulgaria and the Republic of Turkey, enjoying excellent bilateral relations, are no exception to these agreements.
