Reception in Budapest marking Bulgaria’s National Day

06 March 2018 News

To mark the National Day of Bulgaria, our embassy in Budapest hosted a reception at the residence of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ulyana Bogdanska. Attending the event were over 150 guests, among whom Hungarian Foreign Minister Sándor Pintér, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Budapest, the dean of the diplomatic corps, members of the Hungarian Parliament, representatives of Hungarian institutions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as Bulgarian nationals active in the business and cultural sectors.

In her speech to the attendees, Ambassador Bogdanska stressed the significance of the 3rd of March as a symbol of our national self-esteem and dignity as a result of the restoration of Bulgarian statehood and the return of this country into the family of European nations.

She also noted Bulgaria’s role as the rotational President of the Council of the European Union. The Bulgarian diplomat underscored that on this day, it is with a sense of national pride that we pay tribute to the memory and homage to the feat of courage and self-sacrifice of the thousands of soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of our homeland.

To mark the occasion of the traditional Bulgarian holiday Granny Marta (March 1st), each of the guests received a gift of a martenitsa.
