05 February 2018 News

A concert by the State Academic Bolshoi Theater on February 5, 2018, marked in Moscow the start of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Mr. Boyko Kotzev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Russian Federation, opened the festive event with a speech to the official guests, among whom were cabinet ministers, diplomats, members of the Duma, senators, public figures and members of the Bulgarian diaspora.

In his speech the Bulgarian diplomat underscored that Bulgaria has been a member of the EU for 11 years, but has been playing for 13 whole centuries a key role as part of Europe and the European cultural heritage, with Bulgarian culture being an integral component of it.

The young Bulgarian opera singers and musicians, who have already won recognition at Bulgarian and world stages, were given a hearty ovation by the audience. They were joined on stage by the Four Keys Quartet made up of soloists of the Bolshoi. The rich musical program of the event featured works by Bulgarian and foreign composers of world renown.

Another huge success was the concert by Bulgarian singers and musicians specially invited for the opening of the Presidency that took place in the Rachmaninov Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory on February 4. This event marked the beginning of a series of concerts by Bulgarian performers to be delivered at the Moscow Conservatory in the course of 2018.
