Fifteen future diplomats will work for a successful Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council

06 January 2018 News

Parallel to the start of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council, 15 intern-attaches began their career in the sphere of diplomacy after their appointment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They passed successfully all stages of the general competition for the appointment of 15 civil servants at intern-attache positions announced in October last year.

“My main stimulus at the Ministry is the opportunity to work with young and well prepared experts in the sphere of international relations,” one of the best-performing interns Iliya Nachev said.

Within the next six months the potential diplomats will be actively involved in preparing the events of the programme of the Bulgarian Presidency of which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge. In this way the intern-attaches will be able to acquire knowledge and experience in the field of foreign policy in a historic moment for this country.

“It is very interesting to work for the Bulgarian diplomacy in a period when Bulgaria is in the spotlight as an EU Member State taking over the Presidency,” intern-attache Nikolay Nikolov said.

According to his colleague Yana Atanassova, the possibility to communicate with different people and cultures and be a part of formulating Bulgaria’s foreign political priorities is very valuable.

All intern-attaches have passed successfully the three stages of the competition for young diplomats: document-based selection, a written test and an interview with a commission. The 15 intern-attaches are distributed in the following directorates: State Protocol, International and EU Law, European Union Policy and Institutions, UN and Cooperation for Development, Human Rights, Security Policy, EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, Southeast Europe, Middle East and Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Bilateral European Cooperation.
