Bulgaria will support the OSCE missions during the Presidency

Bulgaria will work closely with the OSCE during the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council, Deputy Foreign Minister Emilia Kraleva said. She was speaking during the 24th edition of the OSCE foreign ministerial in Vienna.

“The Western Balkans are a key priority for the Bulgarian Presidency and this matches perfectly the OSCE agenda and its missions in the region,” Emilia Kraleva said. She assured the participants that within the Presidency of the EU Council Bulgaria will continue to supports the OSCE activity in the Western Balkans aimed at helping the countries from the region implement reforms in the field of supremacy of the law, political dialogue, freedom of speech and human rights. The Bulgarian diplomat also said that it is important for Bulgaria to see the EU deepening its support for OSCE in the three dimensions of security: politico-military; the economic and environmental; and the human rights dimensions including for countering extremism and radicalism.

Within her statement she voiced the country’s support for the principles withstood by the organization in the context of security, stability and affirming of democratic values.

The leader of the Bulgarian delegation also said that the crisis in Ukraine remains a major challenge for security in Europe. She expressed concern over the growing number of civilian victims and the worsening humanitarian situation. "Respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries, and non-violation of the internationally recognized borders, are founding principles of the European security architecture and today they are more important than ever," Emilia Kraleva said in conclusion.
