Seventy-four diplomats-to-be write essays on Eastern Partnership

Seventy-four aspirants for a diplomatic career sat for a written examination for intern attachés at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 14 November 2017.
In October, the Ministry announced a general competition for the appointment of 15 civil servants to the position of intern attaché, the closing date for submission of application documents being 24 October. The idea is to recruit more young people in the Bulgarian diplomatic service. Eventually, they will be able to stand up for this country’s interests abroad or to shape our foreign policy in Sofia.
At 10 a.m. sharp on 14 November, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova welcomed the 74 applicants who presented themselves (out of a total of 83 applicants admitted) and declared the written part of the competition opened. The examination format consisted of three stages: taking a multiple-choice test as a general culture check and a psychological test; writing an analytical essay on a foreign policy topic from among the questions listed in the compendium; and writing an analytical essay in one of the languages with which the person applies.
The Director of the Diplomatic Institute under the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tanya Mihaylova familiarised the entrants with the instruction on the conduct of the written part of the competition and answered their questions.
The examination began at 10:40 a.m. and was concluded at 2:40 p.m. The diplomats-to-be had to negotiate version No. 2 of the test. They were required to write an analytical essay on topic No. 18 from the compendium published on 29 August 2017: “The Eastern Partnership: a Platform for Cooperation with the Countries of Eastern Europe and South Caucasus”.
