Ekaterina Zaharieva and eight counterparts discussed UK’s post-Brexit contribution to European security

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva participated in a meeting in the UK with eight counterparts, who discussed the post-Brexit relations between the European Union and London, including the UK’s involvement in the Common Security and Defence Policy.

Host Boris Johnson stressed that his country’s withdrawal from the EU will not affect its contribution to the common defence policy and that Britain will continue to be an important partner of the EU for the sake of the continent’s security.

The meeting at Chevening House in Kent was attended by Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva, Croatia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Marija PejčinovićBurić, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Meleşcanu, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó, Slovenia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrej Logar, the Deputy Ministerof Foreign Affairs for Security and Multilateral Issues of the Czech Republic Ivo Šrámek, and the State Secretary of Slovakia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok.

In an informal atmosphere, the diplomats exchanged views on the crisis in Iran, North Korea and Syria, as well as on a number of other issues on the international agenda.
