Georg Georgiev: “Broad horizons are opening for deeper relations between Bulgaria and Pakistan”

Deputy Minister Georg Georgiev received the Ambassador of Pakistan to Bulgaria Babar Hashmi.
The two discussed questions concerning bilateral relations and the opportunities for intensification of cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, including the prospects for increasing trade and economic exchange.
Georg Georgiev said that Pakistan is an important and influential partner of Bulgaria in South Asia. He emphasised that the opening of a Pakistani Embassy in Sofia in 2009 had influenced positively an invigoration of contacts between the two countries.
“Broad horizons are opening for an advancement of our bilateral relations. We prioritise economy and tourism and invest heavily in their development. I am convinced that Pakistani businessmen and tourists would appreciate Bulgaria as a destination,” the Deputy Minister pointed out.
For his part, Ambassador Hashmi recommended that business executives of the two countries take a more active part in trade fairs in Bulgaria and Pakistan. He stressed the need to go ahead with practical implementation of cooperation on the basis of the existing bilateral contractual framework.
The two diplomats concurred that joint efforts need to be made in the fight against terrorism.
Georg Georgiev familiarised Ambassador Babar Hashmi which the measures that Bulgaria has taken for the protection of the EU external borders and said that this country allocates a large amount of financial resources to ensure the security of its own nationals and of EU Member States’ citizens.
