02 October 2017 News

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva familiarized representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union with the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council. The delegation of the Chamber headed by Susan Danger, CEO of AmCham EU, and Karl Cox, Chairman of the Board, is on a two-day visit to this country.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the European perspective of the Western Balkans – a main foreign political priority of the Presidency. She added that Bulgaria supports strengthening of the integration in the Union at the same time. While holding the Presidency Bulgaria will work on the creation of optimal conditions for ensuring a strong economic growth in the EU, Zaharieva noted.

The strengthening of the EU Single Market and all aspects of the trans-Atlantic relations featured on the agenda of the talks. The two countries discussed Brexit and were unanimous that the process of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the EU should proceed as smoothly as possible. Minister Zaharieva stressed the need of accelerating the negotiation process. She also underscored the need of agreeing on a mutual access of the EU and the United Kingdom to the markets.

The American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union is based in Brussels and its aim is to help US companies operating in the EU on matters of trade, investments and competition.
