In response to the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution on the labour market, Deputy Foreign Minister Konstantin Dimitrov said:

26 October 2011 News

“Bulgaria welcomes the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on October 25 2011 supporting the complete opening of the EU labour market in January 2012 for citizens of Bulgaria and Romania.

We have always emphasised that labour mobility within the EU is essential to economic recovery and to achieving the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy.

We urge those EU member states that are still applying restrictions on nationals of Bulgaria and Romania to take into account official data from the European Commission showing that workers from Eastern Europe have contributed to increasing unemployment and have not harmed the social security systems of member states, to open their labour markets from January 1 2012.”
