Meetings of Minister Mitov within the 70th session of the UN General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov held a meeting with Todd C. Chapman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of State's Political-Military Affairs Bureau, and with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Phạm Bình Minh. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister is participating in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Minister Mitov and Todd Chapman discussed current issues of the bilateral and international agenda, including the situation in the Middle East and the security threats, opportunities to deepen the strategic dialogue between Bulgaria and the United States, and the bilateral cooperation in defence and security. The talks also focused on the opportunities for modernizing the Bulgarian Armed Forces and Bulgaria's participation in U.S. initiatives and programmes in the defence area.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister also held a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Phạm Bình Minh. The talks focused on the opportunities for continuing the cooperation between the two countries, based on concrete agreements and projects in the economic and social area, as well as the development cooperation. The two sides also discussed the further intensification of the interaction within the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) vis-a-vis joint activities under the Danube-Mekong initiative. Both ministers underscored the traditionally good cooperation within the United Nations.
