On January 12, 2023, Minister Nikolay Milkov and the US ambassador to Sofia, Hero Mustafa, opened the celebrations marking the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the US.
Minister Nikolay Milkov and Ambassador Hero Mustafa met in front of the memorial plaque of the first US consular agent in Bulgaria, Dr. Asen Kermekchiev, also known as Ace Kermek. A distinguished doctor, publicist and veteran of the Balkan War, as well as the founder of the first American Chamber of Commerce in our country, Dr. Kermekchiev opened the first US Consular Office in Sofia on January 12, 1912.
