Bulgaria's accession to The OECD International Programme for Action on Climate (IPAC) is approved

04 February 2022 Events and Discussions

The government approved the intention of the Republic of Bulgaria to join the International Programme for Action on Climate (IPAC) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Decision authorises the Minister of Environment and Water to sign and send an application for accession to the OECD Secretary-General.

IPAC serves to monitor and evaluate climate policies, as well as to exchange good practices and plan activities to measure the progress of individual actors in achieving the objectives set. The Programme complements and supports existing climate norms such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Country-specific recommendations are envisaged to provide targeted policy advice tailored to situations across countries. This would allow IPAC to take into account the specific factors and challenges in Bulgaria and possibly reflect more clearly the challenges facing our country to make the green transition.

Bulgaria's accession to IPAC sends a positive message to the OECD Member States as an expression of our country's consistent efforts and commitment to deepen cooperation with the OECD on the path to the full membership in the Organisation.
