During the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, Ambassador Gergana Karadjova delivered a national statement expressing deep concern over the evolving security situation in the region, while highlighting a fragile but important window for diplomacy and long-term stability.
The Permanent Representative welcomed the recent ceasefire agreements, including between the United States and Iran, as well as between Israel and Lebanon, and commended the international mediation efforts that made them possible. “Ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz remains essential for global trade and energy security and must be guaranteed in full compliance with international law,” Ambassador Karadjova stated.
Bulgaria reaffirmed its strong support for the protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel, and UN peacekeepers, and announced a contribution of €100,000 to support Lebanon’s recovery and resilience.
On Gaza, Ambassador Karadjova called for the full implementation of the ceasefire and all provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 2803, including progress on disarmament of Hamas, improved humanitarian access, and steps toward stabilization. She also expressed strong support for international coordination efforts on the ground.
Bulgaria remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and stresses the need for sustained, independent, and impartial humanitarian access.
“We reaffirm our commitment to a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East, grounded in international law and the two-state solution—Israel and a viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security. Bulgaria believes that lasting peace requires a broader regional security framework. We support efforts aimed at building such an architecture, including through the Abraham Accords », Ambassador Gergana Karadjova further stated.
Bulgaria will continue to work with international partners to promote stability, dialogue, and a credible path toward lasting peace.
