Bulgaria and Slovenia share common responsibility for the EU integration of the Western Balkans
12 November 2014 NewsThe political, economic and cultural ties between Bulgaria and Slovenia, as well as the interaction of the two countries in the EU were at the focus of today's meeting of Minister Daniel Mitov and Ksenija Škrilec, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Slovenia in Sofia, based in Hungary.
Minister Mitov and Ambassador Škrilec agreed that Bulgaria and Slovenia have excellent bilateral relations and share a number of common foreign policy priorities within the EU. Bulgaria actively supports the European integration of the Western Balkan countries and we believe that with joint efforts we can provide valuable experience and expertise to the countries from the region on their path towards the EU, the Foreign Minister said. Only through specific joint actions and initiatives we can contribute to the development of the region, said Ambassador Škrilec.
The upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU in 2018 was also among the topics of conversation between the Bulgarian diplomat and the Slovenian representative. Minister Mitov said that the Slovenian experience gained as rotating president of the Union would be highly valuable for Bulgaria.
The Slovenian diplomat reiterated the strong support of her country for Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area and expressed commitment to intensify the bilateral cultural ties between the two countries. The two Slavic countries will make joint efforts to strengthen cultural diplomacy and expand the student exchange, agreed the two diplomats.
