Ambassador Georgi Dimitrov participated in the High Level Segment of the 57th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs

The Permanent Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Georgi Dimitrov, as head of the Bulgarian delegation, participated in the high level segment of the 57th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, held on 13-14 March in Vienna.
The purpose of the high level segment is to make a mid-term review of the Political Declaration and Plan of Action for international cooperation towards an integrated and balanced strategy for dealing with the international drug problem, adopted in 2009. The results of this review will be presented to the General Assembly for consideration in view of the forthcoming in 2016 Special Session of the UN General Assembly on the world drug problem.
Ambassador Dimitrov made a statement on behalf of the Republic of Bulgaria.Joining the positions in the statement on behalf of the EU Presidency, the head of the Bulgarian delegation praised the existing system of drug control. The focus was on the role and the achievements of our country in the fight against drugs in the areas of supply and demand, as well as in aspects of international cooperation in these areas. A special emphasis was placed on the activities for adopting the third consecutive National Strategy for Combating Drugs.
Today Ambassador Dimitrov met with the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Both sides initiated the meeting with the main purpose of searching appropriate forms of cooperation between Bulgaria and UNIDO.
Ambassador Dimitrov and the Director-General Lee Jong exchanged views on a wide range of functional and geographical synergies. Both sides agreed that such opportunities exist and it is due in future to discuss possible practical details. In this regard, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited the Director-General Lee Jong to visit Bulgaria at his convenience. The Director General responded expressed willingness to pay such a visit.
