Japan is a priority partner with a great significance to Bulgaria. With these words, the Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin addressed the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria Takashi Koizumi. The head of the Bulgarian diplomacy wished a successful and fruitful term of the first Japanese Ambassador-Bulgarian scholar, and a longtime friend of Bulgaria. Minister Vigenin reaffirmed the desire for activation and expansion of the relations between the two countries with a focus on trade and economic relations and technology, as well as on attracting Japanese investments in our country. He expressed gratitude for the participation of the Japanese Embassy in Sofia in the initiative of the MFA to raise aid for the Syrian refugees in Bulgaria. We appreciate any kind of cooperation with Japan in support of the Syrian citizens seeking asylum in Bulgaria, Foreign Minister said, introducing the problem of the refugee wave in the country to the Japanese diplomat.

The Japanese Ambassador adhered to the high assessment of Minister Vigenin for the development of the traditional friendship and partnership relations based on shared values ​​and similar positions on global challenges. The diplomatic contacts between the two countries have more than 90 years of history, and in 2014 we will celebrate 55 years of the restoration of the diplomatic relations. This anniversary provides opportunities for organizing a number of events that will contribute to enriching the exchange and the contacts between people on both sides.

Vigenin and Koizumi expressed their determination to work towards realizing the significant potential for expansion of the bilateral relations, especially in the economic field. They agreed that the dialogue at high and the highest level contributes to the advancement of the relations and their strengthening in areas of mutual interest. Both expressed satisfaction with the active relations between the parliaments of Bulgaria and Japan. They shared a common desire to raise the level of relations through active and balanced political dialogue, joint projects in promising fields of economy, science and technology and close cooperation on the international arena, on a bilateral level and within the framework of the strategic partnership between the EU and Japan.
