05 November 2013 News

Indonesia, as one of the leading economies in South Asia, is an important partner for Bulgaria. Main priority of the government is to achieve strong economic growth and therefore we look forward to the East with an aim of strengthening the ties with the countries with rapid economic growth. This was said by Minister Kristian Vigenin during a meeting today with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Sofia, His Excellency Bunyan Saptomo.

We need to find the most effective ways to increase the cooperation in the trade and economic field, added Minister Vigenin, noting that the trade turnover does not correspond to the potential of the relations between the two countries. According to him, the next session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation will contribute to the realization of the full potential.

"Our country is a member of the G- 20 – the twenty most powerful economies in the world and in the recent years it has become an attractive place for business," said on his part, Ambassador Bunyan Saptomo. Minister Kristian Vigenin gave a high assessment to the Expo trade fair in Jakarta with the participation of Bulgarian businessmen, organized during the last years by the Embassy of Indonesia in Sofia.

The two shared the view that it is necessary to intensify the political high-level dialogue between Bulgaria and Indonesia. Minister Vigenin expressed satisfaction from the meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa during the UN General Assembly session, held in September in New York, and said that he is confident that the forthcoming sending of a Bulgarian Ambassador to Jakarta will contribute to strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Minister Vigenin and Ambassador Saptomo also discussed the possibilities for cooperation in the field of agriculture, culture and education. They referred to the second Bulgarian- Indonesian Round Table on intercultural and interfaith dialogue, held in April 2013 in Sofia, as an important factor in the bilateral dialogue.
