The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Irena Dimitrova accepted copies of the letters of accreditation of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bulgaria Alireza Irvash. She made a note on the importance of the bilateral relations with Iran, which have a 126-year history, and expressed a willingness for collaborative steps for their further development.

The priority spheres for cooperation were outlined with a focus put on the trade and economic ties, transport connectivity, collaboration on illegal migration issues, fight against narcotic substances trafficking, consular questions and exchange between scientific organisations of the two countries. A preparedness was stated for proceeding with the established cooperation mechanisms in the relevant sectors.

In the course of the conversation, the Deputy Minister Dimitrova highlighted that the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Programme is of a common interest, which is the reason for Bulgaria to welcome any initiative between the IAEA and Iran, oriented towards restoring the mutual trust within the process. In the context of security policy issues, a serious concern about the ongoing war in Ukraine was expressed from the Bulgarian side with an emphasis that providing assistance is a foreign policy priority.

The Deputy Minister Irena Dimitrova conveyed her warmest wishes for a successful mandate to Ambassador Irvash who expressed his gratitude for the welcoming and a hope for a fruitful cooperation in the future.
