The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel held a conversation with the Ambassador of Ukraine Olesya Ilashchuk on the "Myrotvorets"

20 July 2023 News

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel held a telephone conversation with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria Olesya Ilashchuk on the occasion of the Internet portal „Myrotvorets“ („Peacemaker“) and the related publications to it in the information space. The accessible to the society information is legitimately arousing both public and institutional interest. The reports about the inclusion of Bulgarian citizens in databases of persons, marked as enemies of Ukraine are evoking bewilderment and anxiety. The case of the categorization in question, as well as the considerations and hypotheses arising from it, are brought to the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its capacity not only as a foreign policy department, but also as an element of the overall system of the statehood.

The Ambassador Olesya Ilashchuk assured Maria Gabriel that she is realizing the importance of the issue and stated that „the activity of the public organization „Myrotvorets“ is not related to the work of the state institutions of Ukraine in any way and does not reflect the official policy of the Ukrainian state“. She elucidated that „Myrotvorets“ is a non - governmental organization and its website is entirely informative. In the course of the conversation, an agreement has been reached for this case to be resolved between the competent authorities of the two countries while Minister Maria Gabriel and Ambassador Ilashchuk have united around the necessity to maintain a close coordination.

In addition, ever since the very first signals on the „Myrotvorets“ case from the beginning of the week, on the directions of Minister Gabriel, the Central Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Kiev to urgently investigate and timely inform on the issue.

Within the framework of the principally established regime of operational interaction, the information coming from our Embassy in Kiev will be provided according to the competence of the relevant national services and institutions, whose prerogative powers include the security and safety of the Bulgarian citizens both on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and outside the country.
