On the occasion of the Day of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Service, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel organized an official event, guests of which were the President of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov, Members of the Parliament, Ministers and Ambassadors. The President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev has sent a congratulatory address to the guests of the event.

„On this day, history, present and future are merging. We commemorate the Decree of Prince Alexander I from 144 years ago with which the beginning of the Bulgarian diplomacy as a state service has been set and the first diplomatic representatives abroad have been sent. On this date, we pay a tribute to the work of generations of Bulgarian statesmen and diplomats. They are the 'builders' of our foreign policy, who have made their contribution to the authority of the homeland,“ Maria Gabriel stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the priorities of the foreign policy of the Republic of Bulgaria. Among them, she put an accent on the active membership of Bulgaria in the EU and NATO by emphasizing that the membership in Schengen, the euro zone and OECD are standing at the highest in the agenda of the foreign policy of Bulgaria. Minister Gabriel thanked the diplomats who were present and highlighted the benefit of the good bilateral relations and strategic partnerships in various areas with the countries in the EU and outside of it. The Deputy Prime Minister also put a clear focus on the public and cultural diplomacy.

„The diplomacy is one of the key symbols of the Bulgarian statehood. The foreign policy, which it is carrying out, is being formed as a result of a nationwide coordinated effort, for which the principle “The Unity Is Making the Strength“ is valid at a full level,“ Maria Gabriel further commented.

In conclusion, she drew attention to the need for the diplomatic service and foreign policy of Bulgaria to become attractive for knowledgeable and motivated young people who by working for Bulgaria would have opportunities for a sustainable career development.
